June 2020 Results and Overall GC Positions

June saw the welcome arrival of the Queen stage for this year’s Segment of The Month challenge. Double points were on offer and this supercharged the ferocity of the competition between riders. A number of very impressive efforts were made, over what is without doubt the longest and toughest segment the year has to offer.

Unfortunately, it was necessary to temporarily suspend our VCV SoTM challenge for the latter part of June, whilst the club investigated potential insurance issues that were happily resolved in due course.

In the women’s competition Jools May and Izzy Wild were inseparable, both remarkably setting an identical and quick time of 16:03 to share first place honours.  Nici Ferguson took third place with Vanda Kyselicova and Joanne Clarke also putting in solid efforts over this longest stage of the year.

In the men’s competition, there were a number of impressive times set under the quarter of an hour benchmark. Ben Gibbs reigned supreme yet again, setting a winning time of 13:13. He was closely followed by James Cocker with a time of 13:34 and Philip Hurst Jr closed out the top three within a few seconds of James, with a time of 13:49.

The men’s competition KoM time of 11:59 was not troubled, however Jools and Izzy both came tantalisingly close to the Women’s KoM time of 15:44.

In the Women’s GC competition, Izzy Wild continues to hold first place with a massive 102 points. In second place is Jools May, who has provided Izzy with some fierce competition in the last two months on 45 points. A hair’s breadth behind in third place is Nici Ferguson, just one point separating her from Jools, sitting on 44 points.

In the men’s GC the same three competitors have continued to lock-out the top three places. In first place is Ben Gibbs on 92 points. Second place is held by James Cocker on 77 points. Closing out third place at the moment is Christopher Purver, who with 61 points, is a clear 23 points ahead of the 4th placed rider.

Please note, if you want to continue competing in this year’s challenge, you will need to re-join the new Strava club for this purpose. https://www.strava.com/clubs/698079
