Paul has put together another route on the Salisbury Plain for our August Gravel Ride. Starting and ending again in Ludgershall: St James Street Car Park, SP11 9QF, parking is free. There is a height limit of about 2m however, but parking is available nearby for those with higher vehicles. Ludgershall is 22 miles from Winchester, so we encourage car sharing where practicable.
If you use 'what3 words' the location of the car park is, St James Street Car Park, Ludgershall
The ride starts at 9am so please arrive in plenty of time to set up bikes and kit.
The route is 52km long, and most is on gravel roads in and around Salisbury Plain. The route is on the less technical end of our loops, so any off road bike will be fine. A CX or gravel bike would be perfect! This ride, like all of the VCV gravel rides is a no drop ride, and all are very welcome. You can download the route from Garmin here,
If the weather is good there will be an extension of about 2km of great single track through Ludgershall Woods. We may add a coffee stop mid-ride if it is really great weather.
The ride should take us 3 hours to cover the route although you should allow a little extra time in your schedules for pit and coffee stops if circumstances and conditions dictate!
It may be wet, it may be windy, it may be muddy, it may be 29c, but it will have great big views! Don't forget tubes or to check your sealant. There are no shops close!
PLEASE be aware that this is subject to late change depending on weather and Army closing bits of the plain. PLEASE check the final newsletter.
