August’s climb out of Stockbridge must have been perceived as a tough one, as a lower number of riders tried to set a time this month. Or it could also have been that most people were on holiday at some point during August.

In the women’s open category competition, Isla Hoult took her 8th consecutive monthly win, with a blistering time of 04:12, taking the 15 points on offer, with Annie Dixey claiming second spot and the 12 points available, with a time of 05:38.

In the men’s open category competition, some different riders came to the fore, with George Bentall taking first spot with a fast time of 03:21.James Crook set a time of 03:27 to take second spot and Matt Gilmour closed out the podium in third place with a time of 03:39.

In the men’s senior category competition, Jamie MacPherson claimed first place, with a time of 03:25. Alastair Mucklow was very close behind in second spot with a time of 03:33. Jim Cascarini took the third place with the closest of times to second spot, with a time of 03:34.

In the women’s open category GC, Isla Hoult has added to her unsurmountable lead, now sitting on 135 points at the top of the GC table. Annie Dixey holds second place on 78 points. Vanda Kyselicova stays in third place on 44 points.

In the men’s open category GC, Matt Gilmour can now not be caught, with a table topping points tally of 124 points. Bobby Buenfeld holds onto second spot on 74 points with Oscar Hoult in third on 72 points. Mathematically, Sam Talent and James Crook who are in fourth and fifth place respectively could still potentially take a place on the podium if other rider’s results also go in their favour over the next two months.

In the men’s senior category GC, Jim Cascarini holds top spot on 105 points. Jamie MacPherson is in second place on 92 points with Martin Evans close behind on 90 points. Both Martin and Jamie have a chance to overhaul Jim if they can win the next two months and see Jim pushed down the table by other riders.

Many congratulations to George and Isla, who win a free hot drink and slice of cake from South Downs Social café, who continue to kindly support and sponsor our club’s annual segment of the month competition for the two open categories.

Also, congratulations to Jamie, who wins a £10 voucher for use at Bike-X in Winchester, who are our sponsors for this first year of the men’s senior category of our club’s annual segment of the month competition.

September’s segment brings us to Wheely down, for a 1-mile climb of two halves, starting with a shark sculpture! Click the link here to take a look at August’s segment:
