July’s climb from Kilmeston saw a slightly reduced number of efforts, from club riders possibly due to a mixture of unfavourable weather and commencement of the school holidays.

In the women’s open category competition, only Isla Hoult took and Vanda Kyselicova put down times this month. Isla took her seventh consecutive monthly win with a time of 05:58. Vanda took second with her time of 07:58.

In the men’s open category competition, Matt Gilmour yet again took first place with a quick time of 04:48. James Crook and Nick Selman came to the fore this month, taking second and third places respectively, with times of 05:25 and 06:43.

In the men’s senior category competition, the top times were all pretty close. The established order was challenged this month, with Alastair Mucklow taking top spot with a fast time of 05:30. Jamie MacPherson was hot on Alastair’s heels with a time of 05:36. Martin Evans rounded off this month’s podium with a time of 05:40. Jim Cascarini and Malcom Cross shared joint fourth position, posting an identical time of 05:49.

In the women’s open category GC, Isla Hoult has solidified what has now become a mathematically unassailable lead, now sitting on 120 points, a full 54 points ahead of Annie Dixey who remains in second spot on 66 points. Vanda Kyselicova has made further inroads towards catching Annie, as well as distancing herself from fourth place, sitting in third spot on 44 points.

In the men’s open category GC, there has been some movement in the top three positions. Matt Gilmour has opened up a decent lead, sitting in first place on 114 points. Bobby Buenfeld has leapfrogged Oscar Hoult into second place, with 74 points. Oscar Hoult has dropped into third place remaining on 72 points. Fourth placed Sam Talent sits close behind on 64 points.

In the men’s senior category GC, the battle between Jim Cascarini and Martin Evans for top spot continues to entertain. Jim remains in first place on 95 points, with Martin having closed the gap significantly, now only just behind in second place on 90 points. In third place, Jamie MacPherson has benefitted from a good showing this month, moving closer to Jim and Martin, on 77 points.

Many congratulations again to Matt and Isla, who win a free hot drink and slice of cake from South Downs Social café, who continue to kindly support and sponsor our club’s annual segment of the month competition for the two open categories.

Also, congratulations to Alastair, who wins a £10 voucher for use at Bike-X in Winchester, who are our sponsors for this first year of the men’s senior category of our club’s annual segment of the month competition.

August’s segment is a less frequently taken route, out of Stockbridge, climbing up to a plateau that eventually takes riders down towards Kings Somborne. Click the link here to take a look at August’s segment:
