June’s monster Queen stage attracted a good number of efforts from club riders, all hoping to capitalise on the double points on offer.

In the women’s open category competition, Isla Hoult took her sixth monthly win in a row, with a time of 17:01. A previous year’s champion Vanda Kyselicova came in second with a time of 20:53 and Ellen Bryson, new to this year’s competition, held third spot with a time of 21:12.

In the men’s open category competition, Matt Gilmour hit top spot with a very fast time of 12:31, with Bobby Buenfeld oh-so-close on Matt’s heels in second place with an equally impressive time of 12:36. Sam Talent closed off the men’s open podium with a time of 14:41.

In the men’s senior category competition, the top three times were very close. Back on top was Jim Cascarini with a solid time of 15:14. Jamie MacPherson was close behind in second spot with a time of 15:37. Martin Evans took third position with a time of 15:48.

In the men’s open category GC, the top three positions haven’t changed, however Matt Gilmour has now pulled further away from Oscar Hoult in second place, with Matt on 99 points and Oscar on 72 points. Bobby Buenfeld is closing in on Oscar, as he sits in third place on 68 points.

In the women’s open category GC, Isla Hoult now has a commanding lead, with a maximum-points tally of 105 points after 6-months of competition. Annie Dixey remains in second place on 66 points. Vanda Kyselicova leapfrogs into third place on 32 points having benefitted from her strong performance in this month’s double-points Queen stage.

In the men’s senior category GC, yet again Jim Cascarini and Martin Evans swap places for first and second position. Jim now tops the table on 87 points with Martin in second place on 80 points. The application of double points for June’s Queen stage has had an impact on many other rider’s placings in the GC table. Principle of these, Jamie MacPherson climbs up to third spot on 65 points.

Many congratulations again to Matt and Isla, who win a free hot drink and slice of cake from South Downs Social café, who continue to kindly support and sponsor our club’s annual segment of the month competition for the two open categories.

Also, congratulations to Jim, who wins a £10 voucher for use at Bike-X in Winchester, who are our sponsors for this first year of the men’s senior category of our club’s annual segment of the month competition.

July brings us to a segment last contested as part of our club competition back in January 2020 at the top half of Kilmeston road, and could be one for the Puncheurs. Click the link here to take a look at July’s segment:
