Welcome to the highly anticipated March segment competition.
This month we head south east of the city, climbing from Owslebury Bottom up onto the Downs. Not quite in the Nations Hill ‘sprint’ bracket, this is still a short segment - but it packs a punch, with some of the steepest gradients to be found in the area!

The climb starts at the valley bottom just before the T-junction with Warley Lane.
For about half a kilometre, the road gets gradually steeper. Then the road bends to the left and kicks up to a maximum gradient of 17.7%.

It does level off in the last 100m or so, but you’ll get no relief from the lactic burn!
The segment finishes 20-30m before the junction with Longwood Road.
Segment safety
1. The tempting thing to do with this climb is to come down Jackman’s Hill and carry maximum speed onto the ascent. Please be careful with your approach.
2. Be wary of traffic emerging from Warley Lane on the right at the bottom of the hill.
3. Owslebury Bottom is a fairly narrow lane.
4. Please consider running front and rear lights.
