May’s two and a half mile TT segment on the Westbound direction of Northington lane drew out some sting efforts in all categories

In the women’s open category competition, Isla Hoult took her fifth monthly win in a row, with a time of 05:53. Annie Dixey took another second place being ever so close to Isla with a time of 05:56. Lydia Gould put in her first competition effort of the year in third place with a time of 06:31.

In the men’s open category competition, Matt Gilmour set a new KoM for this segment with a stunning time of 04:36. Close on his heels (but for some reason angering the Strava Gods who recorded his time but had initially failed to show it on the filtered tables) was Alex Murphy, with a time of 04:41. Oscar Hoult closed out the podium with the only other time that dipped under 5 minutes this month, on 04:48.

In the men’s senior category competition, the top three positions couldn’t have been any closer. Martin Evans took top spot with a time of 05:29. Jim Cascarini put in a last-day effort to take second position with a time of 05:31. Malcolm Cross came third with a time of 05:32.

In the men’s open category GC, Matt Gilmour has now moved ahead of Oscar Hoult, as they sit second and first place respectively with 69 and 64 points each. Bobby Buenfeld solidifies his third place on 44 points.

In the women’s open category GC, Isla Hoult is now pulling away from the competition, on 75 points. Annie Dixey remain in second place on 58 points, with Judit D still in third position on 22 points.

In the men’s senior category GC, Martin Evans now sits top of the table on 60 points. Jim Cascarini is still close behind in second spot on 57 points. Alastair Mucklow holds third spot by a fine margin, on 45 points.

Many congratulations to Matt and Isla, who win a free hot drink and slice of cake from South Downs Social café, who continue to kindly support and sponsor our club’s annual segment of the month competition for the two open categories.

Also, congratulations to Martin, who wins a £10 voucher for use at Bike-X in Winchester, who are our sponsors for this first year of the men’s senior category of our club’s annual segment of the month competition.

June’s segment is the Queen stage for this year’s competition. This brings riders back to the mega-segment that is the full Old Winchester Hill climb, a fitting challenge given that double GC points are on offer for top-10 finishers. Click the link here to take a look at June’s segment:
