September’s climb up Wheely Down road saw a flurry of last minute attempts that increased what would otherwise have been a limited showing for this month’s segment.
In the women’s open category competition, our champion-designate, Isla Hoult took her 9th consecutive monthly win, with a time of 04:55. Marianne Durell took second spot with a time of 06:28 and Ellen Bryson was close behind in third place with a time of 06:36.
In the men’s open category competition, for the second month in a row, some new names featured. James Crook took first place with a time of 04:20. Michael Wise took second place with a time of 04:30 and Christopher Purver closed out third place with a time of 05:15.
In the men’s senior category competition, Alastair Mucklow took top spot with a fast time of 04:00. Jim Cascarini was second with a time of 04:27 and Jamie MacPherson claimed third place with a time of 04:28.
In the women’s open category GC, there is no change to the top placings, with Isla Hoult remaining as our women’s champion-designate on 150 points. Annie Dixey holds second place on 78 points, with Vanda Kyselicova consolidating her third place on 52 points.
In the men’s open category GC, Matt Gilmour remains the men’s champion-designate, now on 132 points. Bobby Buenfeld retains second spot on 74 points, however he is now joined by James Crook, who has leapfrogged Oscar Hoult and now also shares joint second position on 74 points, with Oscar in fourth on 72 points.
In the men’s senior category GC, Jim Cascarini retains top spot on 117 points. Jamie MacPherson is still in second place on 102 points, with Martin Evans a little further behind on 96 points. Jim can ‘technically’ still be caught by Jamie, however Jim only needs to register a single point in October, to close-out the men’s senior category championship for this year.
Many congratulations to James and Isla, who win a free hot drink and slice of cake from South Downs Social café, who continue to kindly support and sponsor our club’s annual segment of the month competition for the two open categories.
Also, congratulations to Alastair, who wins a £10 voucher for use at Bike-X in Winchester, who are our sponsors for this first year of the men’s senior category of our club’s annual segment of the month competition.
October’s segment brings us to Kingsworthy for a punchy climb to finish off the year.
