Velo Club Venta has an active group of slightly more mature members racing in both the Wessex Cyclocross League but also in time-trials, road, circuit racing and gravel. In fact if there is a masters category in a cycling discipline we probably have a member who has competed at some time.

There are a number of organisations who arrange events specifically for "masters" aged 40+ or who include race categories within a wider race programme exclusively for masters.

The three main bodies in UK cycle racing organising masters events are:

British Cycling (BC) races for masters start at 40 and categories generally increase in 10 year gaps although as usual with BC  this is not necessarily consistent all the time.

British Cycling

British Masters (BMCR) start at 40 and their age categories increase in 5 year gaps.

BMCR

The League International (TLI) Cycling also start masters racing at 40 and increase their age categories in 5 year gaps.

TLI Cycling

You do need to be a member of the appropriate organisation to ride in races organised by any of the three bodies, BC, BMCR or TLI and consequently if you are new to racing it may be advisable to look at the appropriate race calendars and join just one organisation initially.

There is a VC Venta Masters WhatsApp group who can help and advise on all things related to masters racing. If you would like to join the WhatsApp group email [email protected]

New for 2025 will be a VC Venta Masters "Race as a Team" event where members can claim a cash back incentive to ride a masters event secure in the knowledge that there will be other club members there to encourage, support and advise if you are new to the world of Masters racing.

The event selected is the BMCR organised Jurassic Concrete Classic on a closed traffic free circuit at Bovington on Sunday 13th April. You can read more about this event here,
